Remembering Korea, Rethinking Libya
June 24, 2011
Dear Friends,
Sixty-one years ago, I went to Korea not knowing where it was and what we were fighting for. Today the Korea that was left in rubbles after the war has risen into a giant in Asia and throughout the international community. While I am proud to have helped defend Korea, America cannot be dragged into more endless, undeclared combat. Reinstating the draft would compel the American public, through their Representatives in Congress to think more carefully before sending our troops to war if it were their son or daughter, sibling or friend serving. We must make sure our elected leaders understand the shared sacrifice and moral issues at hand. The question of whether we need a draft will be important as long as we place thousands of young men and women in harm's way.
Best regards,
Charles B. Rangel
